Ed goes and meets the lonely woman, her name is Milla Johnson. She is eighty-two years old and she calls him Jimmy. Ed later finds out that Jimmy was her husband that died at the age of 25 in WWII. He reads to her and tells her that she was good to Jimmy. This makes Milla extremely happy. Also Ed gets a table for his mother, but she still doesn't appreciate him. Then Ed goes to the next house. There he finds a pretty girl named Sophie that runs barefoot at 5:30 every morning. She is very shy and doesn't have confidence around guys. Ed goes and watches one of her races. She doesn't run the same with shoes on and she looses the race. Ed sees this and gives her an empty shoe box. This helps her to run and be confident. She believes that he is a saint.

Then Ed returns to the first house and meets the small girl there, her name is Angela. She wants him to save her. The next morning he finds a gun in his mailbox with one bullet in it and knows what he must do. He picks up the drunk from the bar one night and drives him out to a deserted cathedral. Ed gives the man sleeping pills and holds the gun to his head. Ed fires the gun! But, he couldn't do it, he shoots the gun at the sky and leaves the man. Duh duh duh!
